As a resident of Southern Utah, I live in the majesty of red rocks and age old formations. I see the world through quite a different lens than I did in my youth in San Antonio. I see all the possibilities of finding joy in nature, and I love to dabble in the improbable when creating a vision from my journeys. I strive to pull beauty out of even the most mundane images. My focus is to enhance movement in objects and create pieces that allow the eyes to take the mind on a journey.
I have always created art; painting, photography, quilting, gardening; all outlets where a beautiful outcome is produced. Recently, I discovered a passion for textile art and began using my travel photos as inspiration. When experiencing a new place, I seek out the artistic influences and art history that is unique to each area. Impressionism has always been a source of inspiration and particularly Van Gogh and his imagination when featuring improbable subjects. The work of realist Andrew Wyeth and his use of light, especially in landscapes has had a meaningful impact on my work. While growing up in Texas, I was exposed to the works of many Latino artists. Beatriz Milhazes and her use of vibrant colors and geometric visuals inspires me to challenge my own style.
I use an unconventional medium; employing printed fabrics, textiles, beading, and thread painting to create vivid works that reflect the sights and feelings of my world journeys. I hike an untold number of miles annually in splendid wilderness settings. From photographs taken on these sojourns, I bring my vision to others so they may also see. I invite the viewer to become lost in the details of each piece and hope they find an endless number of patterns and abstract natural features.
I donate annually to auctions that raise funds for animal welfare. This act of charity gives me great happiness to support creatures in need.
